WWE Extreme Rules: 5 Greatest Ever Matches

3. John Cena Vs. Brock Lesnar - Extreme Rules Match

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3UOfUrVOTY John Cena is very stale nowadays. There is nothing he hasn't done and no one he hasn't beaten. Cena definitely has a great match when paired with the right superstar from time to time but lack of character progression has forced much of the WWE fanbase to turn on him. When Cena lost to The Rock at Wrestlemania 28 it was a breath of fresh air for the fans. For a long time Cena looked unbeatable so to see someone finally score a legit pinfall over him was a rare and welcoming experience. The night after Wrestlemania 28 Brock Lesnar shocked the world by doing something no one ever thought he would do and returning to the WWE. A shockwave was sent all over the WWE fanbase (I refuse to say WWE universe) when Lesnar's music hit and he returned sending Cena straight to hell with an F5. This completely changed the landscape of WWE at the time. The weeks leading up to Cena Vs Lesnar at Extreme Rules really got people talking. During a brawl between Cena and Lesnar on an episode of Raw Cena got busted open the hard way and we saw blood make a rare appearance on Raw. People started to wonder "Is this real?" which is a question that pretty much never gets asked in the world of WWE. Lesnar's UFC reputation carried over to WWE with him making him even scarier than he was during his first run with the company. No doubt kids who were new to the product that may not have seen his first run feared Brock Lesnar and it was unlike anything we had seen in a very long time. When Extreme Rules finally came around and the match got under way Lesnar wasted no time living up to his reputation as a destroyer. After years of looking invincible John Cena was made to look vulnerable as soon as the match started. The punches that were thrown in this match were thrown perfectly and made it look more like a legit MMA fight rather than your typical WWE match. Where John Cena seemed liked an even match for The Rock he seemed like absolutely no match for Lesnar. Brock for most of the match absolutely destroyed Cena and Cena sold it perfectly. This was a dream match that completely lived up to all expectations. This match was extremely unorthodox and the image of Lesnar throwing his body over the top ropes and using it as a weapon with complete disregard for his own well being is burned in my memory. Like I said earlier when paired with the right guy Cena can have a great match and this was one of his best. In yet another baffling decision by WWE creative they booked John Cena to comeback out of nowhere and win the match. This finish made little sense and just furthered the animosity from the fans towards Super Cena. Brock Lesnar was booked to look like a monster but he should have been booked to win on this night. Regardless of the winner this match gave us all something special that we won't soon forget.
