I know. I know.

The Dead Man hasn’t been absent on a WrestleMania since before the invention of the Internet. Since before (according to our analytics) the majority of our audience were even born. His role on the show diminishes year-on-year but, regardless, he is always there.

This time last year he wasn’t a dead cert, but John Cena had begun his process of embarrassingly coaxing him out of his retirement in a drawn-out will they/won’t they angle. The year before that, Roman had dumped him out of the Rumble and the pieces were starting to fall into place for a passing of the torch match. The year before that, Vince had called him “his bitch”.

This year though, so far, we’ve had nothing. Reports in the Wrestling Observer continue to indicate that WWE want him to perform at the event but, if those are true, then the clock is ticking to make it happen.
