WWE Gimmick Returns After TWO YEAR Absence On SmackDown
One of WWE SmackDown's finest brought an old favourite back on Friday night.
Finn Bálor's 'Demon' roared back into view at the tail end of last night's "Super" SmackDown show inside the hallowed halls of Madison Square Garden.
WWE had teased the gimmick on last week's broadcast, but few expected Finn's alter ego to launch a comeback just seven nights later - it looked at one point like the E would wait until Extreme Rules on 26 September for that.
This is the first time that 'Demon' guise has been dusted off since June 2019. Yes, it's been over two years since Bálor crept his way to ringside and scared the sh*t out of his opponents.
Here, he emerged to confront Roman Reigns after the Universal Champ spoiled SmackDown's main event tag-team match between The Usos and The Street Profits. Reigns caused a DQ, which ensured that his cousins held onto the SmackDown Tag Titles.
Then, Roman said that he'd deal with Brock Lesnar after easily dispatching Bálor on the next pay-per-view. That brought out Finn, and the live crowd inside MSG loved it.
Bálor's 'Demon' will challenge Reigns for the Universal belt at Extreme Rules. It was great to see the classic gimmick again.
