5. Seth Rollins (c) Vs. Finn Bálor Vs. Samoa Joe Vs. The Miz - Intercontinental Title Ladder Match

At this point in the show, it was abundantly clear that nobody was going to over-exert themselves. Yes, the Cruiserweight and SmackDown Tag Title matches offered flurries of excitement, but nothing you wouldn't see on an average weekly TV show, with event's cast mostly choosing self-preservation over dangerous high spots.

How would a four-way ladder match fit into this risk-averse blueprint? Extremely well, apparently.

The Intercontinental Title scrap wasn't the insane spotfest that TakeOver: New Orleans' five-star scramble was, but it was comfortably the most visceral thing on the show. A cast as talented as Samoa Joe, The Miz, Finn Balor, and Seth Rollins can't help but deliver. Joe played his destroyer role well, Miz was smarmy and cunning, and while the wrestlers didn't kill themselves with career-shortening bumps, both Balor and Rollins were busted open by ladder spots gone awry.

The finish was fantastic. Balor was clung to the ladder, the IC Title within his grasp, when Rollins springboarded into the ring from nowhere. 'The Kingslayer' landed perfectly on the ladder then snatched the belt away, leaving his Irish opponent despondent.

A big Finn vs. Seth singles bout next, please...

Star Rating: ***3/4
