WWE Hell In A Cell 2018: 10 Things WWE Got Right

1. That 'Non-Finish'

Brock Lesnar's surprise appearance was another tick for HIAC's main event.

As referenced in the intro to this piece, the rules for what makes a successful WWE pay-per-view have changed. Crowd-pleasing finishes that rationalise high price points are a thing of the past; at less than 10 bucks per month, the Network gives WWE the chance to book supershows in a more episodic, cliffhanger style than before.

For that very reason, the 'non finish' to Hell In A Cell this year shouldn't be as big an issue as it seemed to be on social media as soon as things faded to black. Put it this way: Rollins and Ziggler bumping off the cell, the Raw Tag Title scene warring on top of it and Lesnar kicking in doors and wreaking havoc was much more entertaining than a straight up Strowman vs. Reigns match had any chance of being.

What was the superior alternative? That Roman Superman Punched his way to a title retention? That Braun beat Reigns easily? No, neither would have left WWE anywhere to go with the story. They chose the best course of action, whether the regular mud-slingers want to admit it or not.
