WWE Invasion 2001: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked
4. Raven Taking On William Regal Was A Bad Mix Of Styles
In boxing they say that styles make fights. It's a true statement that also applies to pro wrestling sometimes. Not always, though. There have been many instances where a power guy has had a great match with a technical wrestler, but it's certainly easier when guys have a similar style. Raven was basically a hardcore wrestler by 2001. He was a better athlete in the early 1990s, but then he became more of a hardcore wrestler. William Regal was always a technical wrestler. It's the style that worked for him. He could brawl too, but fans weren't used to him that way. When they had their match at Invasion it was a case of Raven trying to wrestle a style he wasn't used to anymore and the result was a bad match. Tazz ran in to help Raven, which led to Raven hitting the DDT for the win. It was also weird because Regal had been a heel for so long, but the WWE guys were supposed to be cheered on this show. It led to a crowd that was probably confused when they saw the match.
