WWE expects AJ Lee's seemingly impending return to create major buzz around the upcoming Wrestlepalooza premium live event, where she and CM Punk are expected to face Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.

On WrestleVotes Radio, WrestleVotes stated that this is not the first time that WWE has pushed for Lee to return since her husband, Punk, returned to the promotion in November 2023. It is, however, the first time it has pushed "in such a big way."

WWE believes a Lee comeback will generate considerable hype for 20 September's Wrestlepalooza show, which will be the promotion's first PLE on ESPN, following the expiration of its Peacock obligations.

AJ Lee has not appeared for WWE since 2015, when she wrestled her last match for the promotion and parted ways. While she has not competed since then, she has occasionally shown up on the sports fringes, most notably as a producer on the now-defunct WOW - Women of Wrestling show and in training videos with Punk.

With an Usos reunion and Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena potentially in the works for Wrestlepalooza, as well as Lee's return, WWE appears to be loading up its card on a head-to-head day with AEW. AEW's All Out 2025 pay-per-view was announced for 20 September back in May. Three months later, WWE counter-programmed Tony Khan's group by announcing Wrestlepalooza in August.

AEW has since shifted All Out's start time back by three hours to 3 PM, meaning it and Wrestlepalooza are now unlikely to air head-to-head. Nonetheless, it appears WWE wishes to snatch as much wrestling buzz from its rivals as possible on the day.
