WWE Just Pulled Off The Mother Of All Call-Backs On Raw (WWE News)

WWE Raw calls back all the way to June 2014...

Seth Rollins Roman Reigns

With only a matter of days now until WrestleMania 41, last night's go-home edition of WWE Raw ended in explosive fashion as fans were treated to a call-back to one of the most infamous moments in modern WWE history.

That ending began with Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman in the ring, with the Wiseman explaining how he's paying back a favour to CM Punk rather than simply betraying the Tribal Chief. As this went on, Seth Rollins made his way out, quickly pointing out how Punk is the one to blame in all of this, and that Heyman was indeed betraying Roman. The OTC shut Rollins down, laid him out, and then shockingly pushed Paul to the ground, which in turn led to the arrival of CM Punk.

From there, Punk and Roman Reigns got into it, with Roman sent over the top rope. However, as the Straight Edge Superstar was checking on Paul Heyman, he was hit with a Spear by Reigns. And it was here that we got a call-back to the night that the Shield was disintegrated by Seth Rollins.

As Roman stood looking at the fallen CM Punk, Rollins slipped back into the ring and hit his former Shield buddy in the back with a steel chair, mirroring the events of the 2 June 2014 episode of WWE Raw. Of course, that was the Raw where Seth hit Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose from behind with a steel chair, effectively breaking up that trio as Rollins joined forces with Triple H and the Authority.

Following this latest steel chair attack, this week's Raw would conclude with Seth Rollins hitting a Curb Stomp on both Roman Reigns and CM Punk, standing tall as WrestleMania 41 looms large on the imminent horizon.

The History Of Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns

While the break-up of the Shield may have been nearly 11 years ago by this point in time, it's something that's regularly haunted Roman Reigns in WWE storylines.

A prime example of this came at WrestleMania 40 last year, where Roman defended his WWE Undisputed Championship against Cody Rhodes. Under Bloodline Rules, that match had interference from Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa, John Cena, the Rock, and the Undertaker, but it was Seth Rollins who was ultimately the key figure in all of this.

As a way to mess with Roman Reigns' mind, Rollins entered through the crowd, using the old Shield music and decked out in the familiar Shield attire. And when Roman was faced with the option of using a steel chair on Cody or Seth, he'd choose to attack his former partner rather than his 'Mania opponent, highlighting how the events of June 2014 and beyond still affected him, and eventually playing a part in costing Reigns the match and his title.

Heading into Night 1 of WrestleMania 41 this Saturday, it's Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk as the main event, with all three men having their own particular issues with the others... and with Paul Heyman in the corner of the Punker.
