Thus far during his WWE run, AJ Styles has only won one pay-per-view match. Admittedly, he did enter the 30-man Royal Rumble, but he's stared at the lights for everyone from Chris Jericho to Roman Reigns ever since. His only victory came over Y2J at Fast Lane, before suffering back-to-back losses to Reigns.

Succumbing to the WWE World Heavyweight Champion is understandable, and is especially forgivable because both bouts at Payback and Extreme Rules were excellent. However, Styles is going to have to win at some point, otherwise his cronies in The Club start to look more inept than threatening.

John Cena is the ideal foil for that, he doesn't lose any sheen if he's defeated at the right times by the right people. AJ represents one of those right choices, the timing is perfect to give his WWE persona the jolt it needs by rolling over a top star like Cena.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson can help him, there's no problem with a gang-like mentality taking centre stage and giving Cena an explanation for his loss.
