6. Setting The Scene With That Women's Video Package

As the five ladies involved stood staring holes in one another mid-ring before MITB, a slick video package aired playing up the history leading to that moment. Nobody does this kind of thing like WWE, so it was a shrewd call to air a vignette just as the match was about to get underway.

Looking back on the likes of Mae Young, The Fabulous Moolah, Alundra Blayze, Trish Stratus, and Lita sold how huge this was for WWE's women. Crucially, there was little talk of 'Diva' action or that whole side of things. This was all about women's empowerment and equality. Good: that's how it should be in 2017.

For evidence of how well this video package went over, just compare it to the men's one later. That vid didn't quite have the sizzle that it's predecessor did, and whilst that's probably partly because it went on second, WWE are onto something with the idea of presenting females more seriously.
