WWE: New Age Outlaws' 8 Most Memorable Moments

5. The DX Army

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0B5csEiqRU Following Shawn Michaels WWE departure due to his severe back injury, Triple H created a new DX, which included the New Age Outlaws and a returning X-Pac. Thus began the most famous portion of the Outlaws WWE tenure. As part of DX, it wasn't long before their heel actions were long forgotten and their antics as Degenerates led to them becoming firm fan favourites and a vital weapon for the WWE in the war against WCW. Degeneration X took the idea of war literally when they decided to infiltrate a WCW event. On a tank no less. Using the typical DX sense of humour, they showed up at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Virginia dressed in ridiculous army fatigues and camouflage. It was a milestone moment in the Monday Night Wars between WWE Raw and WCW Nitro with the WWE showing a new confidence after being behind in the TV ratings for so long. DX claimed that the event was free to enter and got many fans to disparage the WCW product on the air. Meanwhile, Triple H insisted WCW should "let his people go," referring to Scott Hall and Kevin Nash who were reportedly unhappy with WCW at the time. As WCW closed their shutters to the DX tank, it was clear that WWE and DX had won that round. WWE had rarely mentioned their competition on the air but DX brought a new swagger to the promotion, using their "attitude" and youth to show that WCW was home of the older generation. The Outlaws continued their old ways of messing with opponents while members of this incarnation of DX. During their long feud with the Nation of Domination, DX drew the ire of the Nation during a segment in which they dressed up as each member and made fun of them. This impersonation included Triple H as "the Crock" and X-Pac as "Mizark Henry" while the Outlaws did their best impression of the Godfather and D'Lo Brown. Billy was referred to as "The Gunnfather," while Road Dogg did a spot on impersonation of D'Lo, drawing everyone's attention to his headshakes and portraying him as a lackey within the Nation. Later in 1998, they gave the Corporation the same treatment, which included the Road Dogg as Mr. McMahon complete with two midgets kissing his behind the entire time as Patterson and Brisco. 1998 was probably the most important year of the Outlaws WWE tenure. As well as the entertaining DX segments, they put in classic tag team performances against the best teams of the era, from the Nation to Mankind and Kane. Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were a vital part of Degeneration X throughout 1998, but in early 1999 the cracks began to show.
