WWE Night Of Champions: 12 Major Talking Points
6. The Tag Team Title Match Almost Stole The Show...Almost
The absolutely hilarious New Day were doing well in their match with the Dudley Boyz, who continued to show just why they’re the most decorated tag team in history. That is…until the finish.
Throughout this match, the New Day had the Dudleys’ number. From Big E’s impressive apron splash to the funny psychology used by Woods and his trombone, the New Day looked like they’d win this match fair and square, which would give them a lot of momentum as deserving champions.
Then, as the Dudleys hit the 3D, Woods interfered and the match ended via DQ, with the New Day using the numbers advantage yet again.
Although that can be forgiven because they’re a heel team, it ruined the match in many ways. The ending was deflating and disappointing. It would’ve been so much better to see the New Day continue their forward momentum and win clean. Instead, we were treated to the third consecutive match on this card to end via either cheap or dirty finish that WWE is too well-known for executing.
On the bright side, with this win, WWE logic (oxymoron alert) necessitates that the Dudleys will get another shot, which means we’ll see more of their matches, which is a continued benefit to the tag team division in WWE.
