Renee Young was the one who delivered the news, AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose and John Cena wouldn't be closing out No Mercy on pay-per-view. Switching things up, WWE management decided to put the Triple Threat WWE Title encounter on first. Meanwhile, fans on Twitter posted thousands of comments about the decision.

Before No Mercy went live, it was expected that Styles would defend his title in the main event. Not only was the WWE Title on the line, John Cena was also involved in the match. A huge star, it seemed likely Cena would be in the headline slot. Somewhat surprisingly, Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt was chosen instead.

Styles vs. Cena vs. Ambrose opened up the pay-per-view portion of the show. Right after an 8-man tag-team clash on the Kickoff show, John Cena's music bellowed out of the PA system and through the arena. It was somewhat jarring to see that happen so early on a major WWE event.

There was no clear reason given for this change to the established format, a fact that only adds intrigue to such a choice.
