WWE No Mercy 2016: 10 Things We Learned

5. John Cena Will Have To Wait For That 16th World Title Reign

Part of the reason for that aforementioned hype heading into No Mercy revolved around John Cena. Getting his first crack at the WWE Title in a while, Cena would have become a 16-time World Champion had he left the pay-per-view with the belt around his waist. Of course, longtime fans will recognise that such a feat would match the achievements of one 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair.

A 16-time champ himself (although Ric claims he actually bagged more than that number), Flair has gone on record to say he wouldn't mind if someone like Cena matched or even topped his record. Ric can breathe easy for now though, John didn't get the win at No Mercy against AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose.

There's no chance Cena's career will end (barring severe injury, which hopefully won't happen) without that 16th World Title triumph. At least for the moment, it hasn't occurred. The wait continues for Cena, it was Styles who was booked to win the WWE Title match on the latest pay-per-view.
