Set to take on The Miz at No Mercy, Dolph Ziggler was betting his WWE career against the WWE Intercontinental Title on the show. Fans were not kept in the dark about what would happen if Ziggler was booked to lose. Not only would he be gone from the SmackDown Live ranks, he'd be out of WWE as a whole.

This means Dolph couldn't have moved on over to sign a contract with Monday Night Raw, or re-negotiated a return to SmackDown in a few months or so. Amidst rumours that his current real-life deal with the promotion was coming to an end, there were some wondering whether or not the storyline had elements of truth to it.

By winning the Intercontinental Title at No Mercy, it's now clear that Ziggler will stay in WWE. Maybe that was never in doubt. After all, a top heel (AJ Styles) holds the WWE Title. More often than not, management don't like having two heels hold their major championships.

When worded that way, Dolph's latest title win makes perfect sense.
