On the April 4, 2016 episode of Monday Night Raw, The Miz defeated Zack Ryder to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion. Ryder had only captured the belt at WrestleMania 32 the night before, making his title loss look like just another false dawn for the long-suffering secondary prize in the company.

In remarkable fashion, Miz was able to completely regenerate the lost lustre of the Intercontinental Title. Finding his feet once again as a top heel, The Miz held the title with distinction throughout his reign. For the first time in a long time, fans didn't have to pause when asked who was in possession of the gold.

Due to his loss to Dolph Ziggler at No Mercy, that successful stint with the title has been ended. In total, Miz lasted 188 days as Intercontinental Champion, the longest tenure since Cody Rhodes went 236 uninterrupted days back in 2011.

The lengthy nature of his time with the belt proves how accomplished The Miz was in that role. His title run is over, now Miz has to find another way to make himself useful.
