WWE NXT ARRIVAL Review - 5 Things We Learned

2. The Rebirth Of The Divas Division

As the situation currently stands on flagship WWE programming, the Divas division is all but dead. The Divas are given next to nothing in terms of character or storyline, and the whole division is currently on autopilot of "who can be number one contender for AJ's title this month?" I don't know about anyone else, but when a Divas match comes on Raw or a PPV, I try to resist, but I always end up going for a pee and to make myself a cup of tea, because I'm so bloody English. In NXT, the Divas division is a hotbed of competition. Only three matches were announced ahead of ArRIVAL going live, and one was Paige vs Emma for the Divas championship. And it was just as good as any of the mens matches and more importantly, got just as much audience attention. Before the bout, Stephanie McMahon came out to the ring and spoke about how proud she was as a woman to see the Divas kick as much ass as the men. The match itself was a treat to watch and it told one of the best stories to tell in wrestling, two rivals competing for a Championship. It went back and forth, showing off the skills of both women, and involved heavy amounts of ring psychology (if you've only ever seen Emma dancing on Raw, you NEED to watch her in NXT) In the end, Paige won by submission using what Regal called a Scorpion Crossbow, retaining her championship in the process. And throughout the match, the audience was chanting "Better than Batista!" The rebirth part of this isn't necessarily riding on Emma or Paige, as good as they are. The WWE has plenty of talented females on the main roster already, and they're only going to get more. The reinvigoration needs to come from giving them storyline and competition. And very soon, it will.
