WWE NXT Takeover London - 10 Interesting Observations From Attending Live
4. Who Are The Tag Team Champions Again?
The polar opposite of Jordan & Gable was the current tag team champions, Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson. Their opponents, Enzo & Big Cass were also ridiculously popular, as they are wherever they go, but this should then translate into some good heel heat for whoever their opponents are. Unfortunately, the crowd just didnt care about them and clearly havent emotionally invested in the current tag team champions, and dont buy them as credible. The most telling sign was a big chant that went up in the second half of the match of Which ones Dash? Which ones Dawson?. My friends and I looked at each other and realised that we genuinely didnt know either! This is not a good sign for the duo, and it may be an indication of a tag team title change in the near future. The result of the tag match, with Enzo & Cass (who is huge in person) deflated the crowd, as many had been expecting a title change. In fact, some were disappointed that there were no title changes at all, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Champions should have time with their reigns. However, the result of the tag match meant that the crowd were uncharacteristically dead for the Apollo Crews vs Baron Corbin match that followed. Corbin got a good heel reaction coming out and Crews, who wrestled extensively in the UK for a number of promotions, was also warmly received. But once the bell rang, it was virtually silent. Corbin has greatly benefited from the Breaking Ground series, which has painted him as more of a three dimensional character that people can identify with, but he was unable to work the crowd to bring them back to life. I dont know how it came across on the Network broadcast, but it felt very flat live. A personal feud resulted in just a normal match without the additional intensity that you would expect.
