WWE NXT TakeOver: The End: 10 Awesome Moments
3. Aries Impatience Costs Him
When Austin Aries hit a Death Valley Driver to Shinsuke Nakamura on the ring apron, it looked like a game-changing move. Rolling to the floor, the Japanese performer looked like he would struggle to beat the referee's count and re-enter the ring. That's when some great booking came into play.
Growing impatient and looking to put his opponent away, Aries stupidly attempted a dive through the ropes to the outside, something that had worked for him earlier in the match. Side-stepping him, Nakamura watched as Austin planted himself on the ringside barrier, and the bump looked suitably painful.
That impatience would be Austin's downfall in the end, he couldn't recover from hitting the steel and was later put away by Nakamura. This was a smart piece of storytelling, not only did it provide a reasonable explanation for the fine margins between both men, it also made Shinsuke look decidedly clever.
He shouldn't have creamed Aries in squash style anyway, there needed to be something Austin could use to point the finger of blame. That bump was it, paving the way for the right match result.
