WWE Paul Heyman DVD Review: 13 Things You Should Know

4. Stephanie McMahon Problems

"I fought a lot of battles that made no sense to fight" Heyman sighs. "Creatively I could drive the show but diplomatically I was a child." That in some ways might be seen as an admission that he was out of order during his 2003-03 fallout with Stephanie McMahon. Reportedly he butted heads with the Chairman's daughter on repeated occasions, and the DVD does make some light of that. "He just seemed to rub everyone the wrong way" Stephanie states. "Paul couldn't take not being the boss." She ended up having to suspend him in this period, briefly mentioning it on the documentary without going into too much detail. The problems only increased after ECW was brought back in 2005. Heyman was on an entirely different page to the McMahon's on how the new ECW should be presented. "It was a distrustful situation" Stephanie says. Although Stephanie and Heyman's interviews for the documentary are cordial, you get the feeling they'll never be the best of pals. We see them interacting and joking a bit backstage at WWE events later in the feature, but you can tell they aren't especially close. Stephanie's conclusion on the subject is that "Some people refer to Paul Heyman as a genius. I'm not sure if the man is a genius. But there's genius in his thinking."
