WWE Paul Heyman DVD Review: 13 Things You Should Know

3. WWE ECW And The Vince Fight

After being removed from Smackdown booking duties, Heyman headed up WWE's developmental league OVW. It was here that that he first worked with CM Punk. "I was learning from him before I was done teaching him." Then came WWE's decision to reboot ECW. It allowed for Heyman to return to WWE TV screens, but things quickly turned sour. "If we did One Night Stand and left it at that, that would have been awesome" Heyman's says on the comeback. The concept for the ECW reboot was put forth by Shane McMahon, he had envisioned a weekly internet show. However, tv networks expressed interest, which effectively transformed it into a corporate thing. "It sucked" Joey Styles blasts. CM Punk adds that "Heyman was super frustrated, everyone was." "It was so bad, it was so miserable" Heyman lambasts. Eventually a huge argument with Vince took place, "When it all came to a head it was not pretty." That's as much as Heyman reveals on the disagreement. Vince himself doesn't appear on the documentary, which is a shame, he would have been an excellent talking head for the production. You get the feeling that this was one of those subjects Paul didn't want to say too much about and the documentary moves on.
