WWE Paul Heyman DVD Review: 13 Things You Should Know
8. Heyman's Passion For ECW
The main thrust of the documentary is Heyman's time in ECW, and in that respect, this feels like a sequel to 2004's excellent 'Rise and Fall of ECW' DVD. That was one of the greatest WWE documentaries of all time and the subject matter proves compelling once more. There's brand new backstage footage and you really get to understand ECW from Heyman's perspective. His passion for the company was huge, he lived and breathed it with a fierce intensity. "Paul united us together as a team" Tommy Dreamer says. "You never felt you were working for Paul, you felt you were working with him" Joey Styles adds. We learn about Heyman's unconventional booking style. "He'd match make with a pen and a napkin. That's how he'd write the show" Tod Gordon states. It was a 24 /7 job and Heyman would often still be going at 5am. He was involved in every aspect of the business and micro managed intensely. He even fired his own mother from the merchandising department. He was all about doing whatever he needed to do in realising his vision. Ultimately that intense passion ended up being his downfall too.
