3. Wrestlemania 18 - Icon vs Icon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25GlxOedgA8 When WCW was purchased in 2001 by Vince McMahon, all I could think of were all the dream matches that were finally possible. Rock vs Hogan, Undertaker vs Sting (which still has not happened) Austin vs Goldberg, Flair vs Anyone, 3 Count vs Too Cool... just kidding. Watching the invasion storyline and not seeing the very top guys was disheartening until 2002 when the NWO showed up, asked for forgiveness then began targeting Stone Cold & The Peoples Champion The Rock. While Stone Cold had to face Scott Hall, I lost my mind when it was confirmed The Rock would face Hulk Hogan. It was a clash of eras, a match of age and youth, and nostalgia vs current day. Hogan was still part of the NWO, so I had no idea what was about to unfold at WrestleMania. In WCW, I was truly marked out by Hollywood Hogan. He wrestled once a month on pay per view, always cheated to win, and held the belt FOREVER. So by 2002, I was firmly in the corner of The Rock. The fans in Toronto did not share my sentiments. The last time Hogan was in Toronto was Wrestlemania 6, which I will touch on later, and he was very much the icon that he had always been. It didn't matter that Hogan was past his prime or playing a heel, he transcended the character he was given, and embraced the legend he was. Rock Vs Hogan was about as good of a wrestling moment that one could get, as both men adhered to the enviroment and told a great story on the fly. Rock pinning Hogan clean in 2002, did not have the same impact as it might have 4 years earlier, but for Hogan to agree to put Rock over solidified him as a legend in his own right. It was a chance to redo the torch pass that he attempted with Warrior, 12 years prior in the same building.
