4. Wrestlemania 5 - The Mega Powers Explode
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KSjB-VBI2I In 1988 at Wrestlemania 4, Macho Man Randy Savage won the WWE Championship in a 14 man tournament. Savage, long known as one of the best in ring performers of that era, had defeated The Million Dollar Man with the help of his buddy Hulk Hogan. The two celebrated Macho's victory and a partnership seemed to be born. The madness, and the mania equaled The Mega Powers! The Mega Powers fended off challenges from The Megabucks, (Dibiase & Andre) & The Twin Towers (Big Boss Man & Akeem) for the next few months, but the spotlight strangely stayed on Hogan, as Macho Man began to let paranoia creep in with Elizabeth and Hogan's relationship. Savage turned heel by attacking Hogan backstage after he carried Elizabeth to the locker room during a match. This had been building from Survivor Series, where Macho showed doctored footage of the "lust" in Hogan's eyes. Hogan of course strongly denied any type of wrong doing, and attributed Savage's paranoia to the fact that essentially Hogan was a bigger star even though Savage carried the title. Sounds familiar huh? The Wrestlemania 5 Match is Hogan's best in ring performance, no shocker with who he was paired with here. A moment that would never fly today was Jesse "The Body" Ventura advocating domestic violence towards Elizabeth, by suggesting she needed a "punch to the nose." Savage was the perfect slimeball, hiding behind Elizabeth when Hogan chased him down, and repeatedly hopping out of the ring while Hogan tried to engage. As Savage kept attempting to choke out Hogan, a hush fell over the crowd who looked to be in disbelief that their hero could be defeated. It was not to be. Hogan kicked out of the flying elbow drop with vigor and immediately "Hulked Up" and went into the finishing sequence. Working with Savage gave Hogan more of a chance to show his ability, as compared to his brawls with King Kong Bundy and Andre The Giant. Fans were itching to see Hogan regain the title, and personally I was blown away with the one year story arc that WWE put together. They need to bring that back!
