WWE: Ranking John Cena's 14 World Title Reigns - From Worst To Best
6. WWE Championship (5th WWE, 7th Overall) October 25, 2009 - December 13, 2009
John Cena was able to best his greatest rival during his career, The Viper Randy Orton, in a classic Iron Man match that Cena won by a score of 6-5 in the final seconds. The match has been called the most barbaric Iron Man match in history and is one of two legendary Iron Man matches that Cena has been a part of. Cena was once again champion, but much like many of his reigns, it wouldn't last long. After successfully defeating both Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a Triple Threat Match at Survivor Series he would lose it to relative newcomer Sheamus in a Tables Match at TLC: Tables, Ladders And Chairs. A huge upset at the time and a shocking result for fans, as very few foresaw the veteran champion losing to the upstart Celtic Warrior. The match was not without its controversy however as Cena was clearly in the advantage and setting Sheamus up to be superplexed through the table to retain the championship. A highly dubious way for a champion to lose his championship, but an effective way to bring attention to the Pale Warrior.
