WWE Raw: 10 Things You May Have Missed (Oct 17)
7. WWE Couldn't Resist Making A 4:20 Stoner Reference
At 420 days in length, The New Day's Raw Tag-Team Title reign is reaching Demolition-like levels of awesomeness. From March 27, 1988 up until July 18, 1989, Ax and Smash held the old World Tag-Team Titles for an incredible 478 days. It'd be a real shame for WWE to cut New Day short when they're so achingly close to beating that run.
On Monday Night Raw, the creative team couldn't resist making use of a small coincidence. Keep in mind that WWE operates under PG guidelines, the product is still mainly aimed at young children. Therefore, it's surprising that the promotion were willing to crack a stoner joke on Raw.
Coming to ringside and running through their usual wacky dialogue, Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods then inserted a little reference to stoner culture. 4:20 is often used by those who enjoy marijuana, meaning that theoretically many enjoy a joint at 4:20pm (or celebrate 'Weed Day' on April 20 each year).
Woods said over the mic that he was hungry, leading Kofi to keep his mic away from his mouth and ask if Xavier had "the munchies or something". Naturally, this wasn't referenced by the announcers.
