How involved is The Rock in current WWE creative?

Despite constant rumours that the Rock may have some sort of hand in WWE creative these days, the Great One has not had any role in WWE opting to seemingly pivot away from Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer says that Rocky "has not weighed in at all on current WWE creative".

As for Rhodes vs. Reigns III, some within WWE thought that was the way to go for 'Mania 42, but, ultimately, Triple H changed his mind and decided to take things in a different direction for this year's Showcase of the Immortals.

Additionally, Meltzer addressed the chances of a Cody Rhodes heel turn potentially happening at some point. On that topic, it was said that the American Nightmare embracing his villainous side is "not happening now" and won't happen until it's "deemed it has to", with it felt that such a turn won't take place any time soon. As Meltzer points out, Rhodes' merchandise numbers are constantly strong, which would be a factor in making the choice to pull the trigger on any turn. Historically, a promotion wouldn't want to turn its top babyface heel when that person's doing big merchandise business, especially if the company didn't have a readymade replacement waiting in the wings to take that top hero spot and drive similar merch numbers.

In terms of what Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns will be doing at WrestleMania 42, we should have a better idea of that once the Royal Rumble is done and dusted this weekend. For Cody, purely from your writer's perspective, he appears set for a triple-threat with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu at the Granddaddy of Them All, and Rhodes winning the men's Elimination Chamber next month would be a logical way for him to get there. Where it pertains to Roman Reigns, the Tribal Chief is one of the big favourites to win the men's Royal Rumble on Saturday, which could put him on a WrestleMania collision course with WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. Other than that, a match against Bron Breakker could make sense for the Head of the Table at 'Mania, should WWE look to keep Reigns away from the World Title mix.
