WWE Raw: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (May 30)
4. Too Little, Too Late
The high point of Raw came at the 10:00 hour, when John Cena made his long-awaited return. Cena cut a promo about how glad he was to be back, but was interrupted by AJ Styles. After a very long, very memorable dueling chant of "AJ Styles!/Let's go, Cena!" Styles let Big Match John know that he was glad to see him back in action.
The two shook hands, but were interrupted by Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Just when it looked like we'd get a two on two brawl, Styles turned on Cena, taking him down with a forearm. The Club laid into the returning 15-time world champion, with Styles repeatedly heading back to the ring to deal more damage to Cena.
The angle was hot and well-executed, but given all of the buildup between Styles and The Club, it felt like a last-minute change of plans. For weeks, The Club offered Styles unsolicited help, and "The Phenomenal One" finally gave them the boot last week. That seemed to set up Finn Balor's debut and the formation of Balor Club, but now, Balor's future is anybody's guess.
Plus, if Styles was going to turn heel and fully accept his friends' help, he would have been better served making the decision a couple of weeks ago. That way, he might be WWE Champion right now.
