WWE Raw: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (May 30)
5. Protecting The Stars
Last week on Raw, WWE Women's Champion Charlotte fired her father, Ric Flair, from her employ in colorful fashion, dressing him down as a bad parent in front of the entire WWE Universe and finally telling him that he was dead to her. Charlotte's actions were so shocking that even other heels, like announcer JBL, condemned them.
Stephanie McMahon was another such hypocrite. In a pre-recorded segment, McMahon approached Charlotte backstage and laid into her for her disgusting behavior. Given that Stephanie and her father have been at odds for much of her WWE tenure (even orchestrating acts of violence on each other), she was hardly one to talk. When a smug Charlotte started to point that out, Stephanie quickly shot her down, screaming at her and calling her a spoiled brat. A cowed Charlotte simply stood there and took it.
The McMahons have always had a habit of making themselves look good at the expense of talent, and it never stops being highly questionable. After all, Stephanie may be running the company in the long run, but it's superstars like Charlotte who'll be carrying the in-ring portion of things, and that's ultimately the company's bread and butter. Over the years, we've seen "The Billion Dollar Princess" dress down tons of talent, making them look weak. This was just another example, and it hammers home that, publicly traded company or not, WWE is still just a McMahon vanity project.
