The Max Moon gimmick was originally conceived for Charles 'Konnan' Ashenoff. In 1992, Konnan used the character on house shows, but by the time the persona made it to television he was gone from the company. Eager to keep using the character, the WWF cast Paul Diamond under the garish outfit. Looking like a walking cartoon character, Max Moon didn't appeal to the mass audience. Even so, he had racked up some wins on WWF television before facing Shawn Michaels on the first Monday Night Raw. Granted an Intercontinental Title shot, Moon looked competitive in the bout before eventually losing to the champion. Earlier in his WWF run, Diamond had been part of The Orient Express, but Max Moon would be his final role. After leaving the WWF in 1993, he worked for ECW and WCW briefly before settling into working on the independent circuit. Since then, Diamond has stepped away from the industry, and now works as part of Decatur Parks and Recreation Services in Alabama. His last real wrestling appearances came way back in 2001, and it seems the 54-year-old is done with the grap game.
