WWE Raw Review: 10 Big Talking Points (Jan 18)

2. Jey Uso vs. Big E

The New Day make a solemn entrance tonight in remembrance of Francesca, Xavier's prized trombone who met a horrific end at the dastardly hands of the evil Canadian, Chris Jericho. Big E throws Jey around but misses a blind charge to the corner and Jey slugs away. Big E drives him into the corner to recover but Jey makes his comeback by dancing...yeah, that's a thing that happened. Another shot sends Big E to the floor and Jey mistakenly heads out after him, resulting in a back body drop on the floor and a commercial break. We return with Jey fighting out of an abdominal stretch but he gets put down and Kofi adds a kick to the face just because. Big E misses his splash on the apron though, which is a sick bump if you know how a ring is constructed. The problem is that is doesn't look like it hurts like hell but it hurts like hell, which is the worst possible bump to take. Jey sends him into the ringside barrier and hits a high cross body back inside the ring. Big E runs into a kick to the face for two but manages to put Jey on the apron. Big E's string of bad luck continues as he misses his spear and splats on the floor in yet another painful bump. Jimmy takes out Kofi but forgets about Xavier Woods and his distraction allows Big E to hit the Big Ending for the win. My Take: We desperately need to get some NXT tag teams up on the main roster because the New Day have run out of teams to face and they're already recycling the Usos. Surprisingly, Big E put on his working shoes for this match and took two nasty (if not wholly unnecessary) bumps on the apron and on the floor. I appreciate the effort and it ended up being a very watchable TV match **1/2. They'd be crazy to take the titles off of the New Day, though.
