WWE Reading Live Review: 10 Interesting Observations You Need To Know
4. WWE Creative Has No Idea What It Is Doing With The Bella Twins
One minute the Bella Twins are loving sisters. The next, Nikki is forcing Brie into a month of slavery. Then they reunite as heels, only to switch back to babyfaces when feuding with Naomi. Now that Paige is back and hunting the Divas Championship, they have demonstrated heel tendencies again. Then they rolled into Reading smiling, waving to fans and basking in the pop of the audience, the clear babyfaces. Nikki worked as a babyface, played to the crowd and finished Naomi with the Rack Attack to successfully retain the title. It was an odd bit of booking that essentially threw away everything that has been done on television to that point. Why the writing staff is having as much trouble properly defining the Bellas as characters can probably be traced to the fact that everything done involving them correlates to the Total Divas reality show. While it would make sense that they would want the show to echo ongoing themes and stories, it comes at the expense of the quality of the show and the characters themselves. Not only that, but it hurts everyone who works with them because stories and angles are left hanging or deemed irrelevant based on whatever changes have to be made to fit the show. That the fans have been so conditioned by WWE's marketing to cheer the Bellas regardless because of their positioning as the top Divas in the company, only makes it more difficult to figure out exactly what they are as characters. It was a sentiment reflected by more than one fan, most of whom brought up Nikki's heel turn from SummerSlam and the lack of followup post-October 2014.
