WWE Release NXT's Troy "Two Dimes" Donovan
Young superstar was part of Tony D'Angelo's family, debuted less than two months ago.
The D'Angelo Family might have grown recently due to Legado Del Fantasma joining its ranks, but the group has lost one member, with Troy "Two Dimes" Donovan released from WWE.
Dave Meltzer reported via Wrestling Observer that NXT superstar Donovan was released Saturday "due to a policy issue" rather than the oft-cited "budget issues" or other reasons. Said Meltzer:
“Troy ‘Two Dimes’ Donovan of the D'Angelo family was let go yesterday [June 11]. This wasn't a budget or creative decision, but a policy issue and he was told he may be brought back in a year.”
Donovan's departure comes just a few weeks after his debut on NXT 2.0 as an associate of Tony D'Angelo alongside Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo. The two goons teamed with Tony D to defeat Legado Del Fantasma in a six-man tag match at NXT In Your House last weekend, which led to Legado joining D'Angelo's family.
Two Dimes was signed by WWE earlier this year, but unlike several other recent signings, Donovan actually had some independent wrestling experience, having competed since mid-2020 on the indy scene as Cole Karter, including several matches for AEW on Dark and Elevation.
It remains to be seen how the D'Angelo Family fills the vacancy, and also it will be interesting to see if WWE does indeed bring Donovan back in a year or so as Meltzer suggested.
