WWE Road to Wrestlemania 29 - John Cena Beats CM Punk To Face The Rock

The Undertaker

On Saturday night, a house show was in full flow in Waco, Texas. Sheamus had come out for a handicap match against Damien Sandow and Wade Barrett. In response to his poor odds, he said he had arranged for a partner to join him. Then a familiar gong chimed as the lights cut out. The WWE managed to surprise everyone as The Undertaker walked down towards the ring for the first time since his epic battle against Triple H at Wrestlemania 28. Not only was this incredible for the fact they had managed to keep it a secret in this day and age, but also for the fact that one of the most known and talked about WWE superstars was making his return at a house show, untelevised. He won the match for his team with a tombstone piledriver to Sandow, and the floodgates of rumours and hearsay opened. All the speculation was that he would surely appear on Raw this Monday from Dallas. But there was no sign of The Phenom. The return of 'Taker on Saturday will have drawn people to watch Raw in the hope they would see his 'official' return, and while they didn't get that, WWE will hope they were hooked by the brawl between Triple H and Brock Lesnar, and by Cena's victory over Punk. The Undertaker returning on Raw would have overshadowed what was clearly meant to be Cena's 'moment'. How, when and why he will return, and indeed whether he will return, is still completely up for debate. It is five weeks until Wrestlemania, so time is already short to build a serious feud for The Deadman to sink his teeth into. CM Punk is now without a clear opponent too, and rumours have abounded that the two will face off. How WWE would go about building that up is unclear, and what quality of match they could construct is again a guessing game. CM Punk has consistently proven he can work a good match with anyone, but what state The Undertaker is in is still unknown, and how much he could go in the ring might not be clear until five minutes into their match. Other options could include giving a younger opponent the rub, such as Barrett, Sandow or Ryback, but question marks remain over who has actually earnt such a huge spot. Another way to get him on the card would be to insert him into a tag team match so that he could restrict his activity and save his body a little. Perhaps if 'Taker returned on Raw next week, The Shield might take exception to him turning up whenever he wants. Cue them surrounding the ring, Taker getting a little help from Sheamus and another, and there's your tag match. Prediction: The Undertaker would not just return at a house show unless he was warming up to something. Expect to see him return on next week's Raw to start a feud with someone to take him through to Wrestlemania, where surely The Streak will continue. CM Punk could well be the latest victim.
