World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto del Rio (c) vs Jack Swagger
At the Elimination Chamber, the now face Del Rio had Big Show tap out to his cross-armbreaker to retain the title. Meanwhile in the Elimination Chamber, Jack Swagger came out victorious to claim the number one contenders spot at Wrestlemania for the World Heavyweight Title. Jack Swagger only returned to the WWE after a long absence at the start of February. He returned with a new mouthpiece, a Mr Zeb Coulter, and a new attitude, which has certainly got people talking. Speaking of how there are too many languages they do not understand and too many faces they do not recognise in America, Swagger and Coulter claim they have returned to save the good ol' U S of A. Which of course leads in ever-so nicely to a feud with the current champ, a Mexican. Swagger is a fantastic atlete, but has never before had the charisma or personality - in and out of the ring - to become one of the top men. With a controversial gimmick and a manager, he could work. The feud writes itself, and with Swagger's ankle lock and Del Rio's armbreaker, the match has the potential to be an old-school submission masterclass. However this week Swagger has potentially committed career suicide. Just weeks after his return and the start of an almighty push, he managed to get arrested straight after the Smackdown taping for DUI and driving offences. There is also talk of marijuana possession and all of these offences are potential causes for dismissal under the WWE Wellness Policy. Swagger may have not so much shot himself in the foot, as taken to it with a tactical nuke. WWE may try and sweep it under the carpet, maybe even tie it into his new character somehow, but they are just as likely to come down hard on Swagger. Where they would go next is anyone's guess. With Del Rio as a face, someone such as Mark Henry might get the spot, or Randy Orton could finally get the heel turn he so desperately wants and needs. Swagger and Orton were the last two men in the Chamber, so if they really do want rid of Swagger, the easy route would be to have Orton convince him to put his shot on the line and then lose it. Prediction: It all depends on how the WWE reacts to Swagger's misdemeanour's. If his push continues, there is every chance he could come out of Wrestlemania as the World Heavyweight Champion.
