11. The End Of History

WWE pulled one of its favourite moves last night, the old 'title reign record is broken and then champions immediately lose the belts' trick. The New Day's historic 483 day run as WWE Tag Team Champions came to an end at the hands of Sheamus and Cesaro in what was a fantastically entertaining opening match.

This may well have been the best match of The New Day's entire championship reign. Maybe it was the knowledge that history had already been made, or the removal of the shackles of an inevitably frustrating finish gave the champions new weight, but whatever it was the five men involved played their parts to perfection.

The finish was creative too, Sheamus pinning Kofi after Cesaro had faked a tag. It was initially jarring but ultimately a refreshing end to the match. You can argue that The New Day's title reign should have ended six or seven months ago, but arguing about what has happened is somewhat pointless. This was the right move at the current time.

The RAW tag team division has hit reset, and that can only mean good things for all of the teams involved.
