10. Kalisto Becomes United States Champ
Few can claim they were really expecting Kalisto to walk out of the Royal Rumble with the WWE United States Title in his possession. Scanning fan comments online makes it clear that most believed the high-flying masked man had been given a brief moment in the sun by winning the belt on Raw previously, and he had lost it back in quick order. Come the Rumble, many expected Alberto Del Rio to win. Clearly, that's not what happened. Instead, one half of The Lucha Dragons did indeed walk away with the championship and hope remains that WWE could persevere with his push going forward. Conflicting online rumours suggested that Vince McMahon wasn't fully into the idea of making him this generation's Rey Mysterio, but the Rumble flies in the face of that. After all, Del Rio has only been back a few months. It was a big step to book Kalisto to defeat him so emphatically on the pay-per-view. There's no reason why the quick-paced performer can't thrive with a title around his waist, it's certainly interesting for the United States Title.
