WWE Royal Rumble: 10 Most Criminally Overlooked Matches
3. Edge Vs. Dolph Ziggler - 2011
Edge and Vickie Guerrero might have been a (on-screen) couple in 2008 but, three years later, they were history. Not only were they history, but Vickie really had it in for her former flame, who was now firmly a babyface. The Smackdown GM, who had a bit of a thing with Dolph Ziggler, banned The Spear for Edge's World Title defence against Ziggler at the 2011 Rumble. The two talented grapplers kicked off the PPV with a spirited 20-minute match that really picked up towards the end. With The Spear off the table, Edge was forced to dig deep into his bag of tricks, busting out his little-seen Edgecator submission hold, the Edgecution impaler DDT and Chrstian's Unprettier/Kill Switch. Although he triumphed in the end, Edge did have to bust out a spear in order to sufficiently weaken the Show Off. Thankfully the ref was bumped and Vickie had been immobilised by Kelly Kelly, so the Ultimate Opportunist was able to get away with it. This wasn't the 'Edge show', mind - Ziggler more than held his own here and proved to everyone that he could hang in a World Title/main event scenario. The crowd were really buying into the false finishes and almost s*** themselves when Ziggler hit a Zig-Zag for a 2 3/4 count. Easily match of the night, this was also one of Edge's last great matches before retiring a few months later.
