WWE Royal Rumble 2013: 5 Awesome Moments And 5 That Sucked

2. Ryback Is No Goldberg

Not a big fan of his, but the potential is there. The WWE needs new superstars and, like it or not, a couple of them have to be the jacked-up muscle-bound dudes Vince McMahon loves. Plus, he's still kind of new and shiny. With the exception of Daniel Bryan, Ryback's the most over wrestler from the original Nexus group. So what if he drew early comparisons to Goldberg? I'm sure if the WWE could convince Goldberg to give Ryback his blessing he would've been on an episode of Raw telling Ryback how he reminds him of a gentile Goldberg. Deep down it seemed like the WWE wanted Ryback to at least have the same type of meteoric rise as him. Win a lot of matches, win a secondary title, then go for the big one. Those plans were laid to rest at Hell in a Cell which made sense because his title shot came too soon. He was still wrestling guys like JTG on Raw. Things weren't the same after that first loss; little by little Ryback became just another guy on the mid-card/main event threshold, eventually becoming the new version of Bret Hart considering the number of times he was being screwed over. Despite being one of the last two men in the ring, it's evident that the WWE is going in another direction with Ryback - the guy who's never been pinned cleanly, but can't win when it matters most. Hopefully, Ryback gets the win he needs to put him back on track at WrestleMania.
