WWE Royal Rumble 2016: 10 Things We Learned

2. Triple H Is The New WWE Champion

It's something a lot of people called before the event, and it's something which has become a reality. Triple H was the big surprise during this year's Royal Rumble, and the closing portion of the bout was expertly worked. Roman Reigns has supplanted Daniel Bryan as the babyface hero who is continually undermined by The Authority. Reigns may not be as immediately popular a figure as Bryan was when playing the role, but it seems smart to have him chase Triple H for the title at this point. Tossing Roman out of the Rumble, 'The Game' then managed to overcome a seriously banged-up Dean Ambrose to become the latest Royal Rumble winner. Fans were engaged in the closing portions of the contest, which is a promising sign. Not only was this a second Rumble win for the man (the first coming in 2002), but Triple H also became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion by virtue of eliminating Ambrose. Some may have reservations about this idea, but it's the first time in years the guy has held the top title. Surely now there is a WrestleMania main event just begging to be booked.
