WWE Royal Rumble 2016: 5 Reasons To Be Fearful

4. There Aren't Enough Realistic Winners

A recurring problem with the Royal Rumble is that the days of fans believing anybody can win are well and truly over. Fans aren't stupid, and it's clear there's a pool of only two or three guys that fans realistically believe can emerge victorious and go on to main event WrestleMania. This year, that pot has arguably been trimmed to just two men, although there's an argument to be made that Brock Lesnar is also a realistic choice. Looking at the others, only Roman Reigns and Triple H stick out as logical winners, and the latter hasn't even been officially announced as an entrant. In essence, this makes the announcements for other guys seem a little pedestrian. It's difficult to get excited for Chris Jericho announcing his entry into the match when it's painfully obvious he won't be leaving with his hand raised, for example. That may appear cynical, but it's a mindset WWE have fostered over the years. The company themselves haven't really fleshed out the field for the match properly. Looking at others who have been confirmed, the likes of The Big Show, Mark Henry, Stardust and Ryback hardly scream 'winner'. The Wyatt Family are involved, as are the newly-formed Social Outcasts, but members of those groups do not have a cat in hell's chance of winning. WWE should be working hard to ensure that fans struggle to pinpoint a winner before the match, but they haven't in 2016.
