Who could have whipped up a better start to 2018 than seeing both Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka win their respective Royal Rumble matches? On that note, what aspiring Nostradamus imagined that WWE would book both of their top Japanese stars so strongly to kick off 'Mania season? It's fantastic to watch.

Asuka's unbeaten run (stretching all the way back to her time on NXT) was on the line at the Rumble. Be hurled over the ropes and she'd technically have lost, and that would have shattered her aura on Raw. As the winner of the first ever female Rumble however, Asuka remains undefeated and will probably head into WrestleMania that way.

The possibilities of matches against Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair or, rather unbelievably, Ronda bloody Rousey remain open. It's the latter pair fans will be most interested in; against either Flair or Rousey, Asuka would tear the house down.

Let's just hope WWE don't get cold feet and back out now.
