The worst crime of the Jinder reign is that it came at the expense of Shinsuke Nakamura, who arrived on SmackDown red hot from the best run of any NXT superstar to date.

Mahal rode his early days as champion on a wave of surprise and Orton apathy, but the novelty had worn thin by the time SummerSlam came around and most followers were expecting Nakamura to end the charade and take his place as WWE champion.

‘The Modern Day Maharajah’ again slowed the pace down to snoring levels and eventually went over with the help of the Singh Brothers. It was this repeated finish which made the result tough to swallow, and lost those fans who'd been patient with the Jinder experiment.

Jinder would show later in the year that he could be carried to an excellent title match with AJ Styles, but on this night his bout with Nakamura preceded a barnstorming fatal 4-way for RAW’s Universal Championship, which showed how far SmackDown had fallen in his hands.
