WWE’s Escape The Undertaker Review: 5 Ups & 3 Downs

Downs...

3. Who?!

New Day Escape The Undertaker Netflix
Netflix

Director Ben Simms clearly figures that some non-wrestling fans will spot this on Netflix and give it a bash. Why else would he insert two rather random retrospectives on both The Undertaker and New Day? The latter vignette, in particular, introduces Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to the masses.

The problem is that...well, it's done so clumsily.

'Taker sees New Day on security cam outside his door, so fires up a convenient highlight reel of the trio's WWE history. That's set to commentary from Michael Cole and Pat McAfee about how "zany" and "fun" New Day can be. It's harmless, sure, but such pretence that The Undertaker doesn't know who these dudes are is strange.

He's a WWE legend, and New Day have been one of the promotion's biggest acts for six/seven years. Also, Big E is the current WWE Champion, but this was presumably filmed before he bagged the belt so that's never mentioned.

These introductions were totally unnecessary.
