WWE Scrapped Plans For THIS New Title
Former WWE wrestler reveals the rejected blueprint for innovative new division.
Disgraced former WWE wrestler Jack Gallagher has revealed cancelled plans for what would have been new Cruiserweight Tag Team Championships in the company.
Gallagher unveiled what may be concept art for the straps, prototypes of which were kept in a prop truck from the moment the lighter weight class returned to WWE television following the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic tournament.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Gallagher stated that after stumbling upon the purple and silver straps, various Cruiserweights started pitching ideas for the tag division. These included forgoing traditional American tag rules in favour of something closer to a Mexican style, in which a wrestler's feet touching the outside would constitute a tag, as well as making it a trios division.
None of these ideas made it through the pitching process.
Brought back through the Cruiserweight Classic, the Cruiserweight Championship is still active today and is currently housed on NXT, where Kushida has been champion since ousting Santos Escobar on 13 April.
Gallagher was released by WWE in June 2020, having been accused of sexual assault during that month's Speaking Out movement. The 31-year-old is yet to re-emerge in professional wrestling.
