WWE SmackDown: 10 Things You May Have Missed (Nov 1)

1. Dean Ambrose Used A Low Blow To Beat AJ Styles

Rewind to Backlash, when AJ Styles used a crucial low blow to beat Dean Ambrose on the pay-per-view and become the new WWE World Champion. That spot has been mentioned on commentary several times by Mauro Ranallo, giving fans the suggestion that Ambrose was never beaten fairly for the championship.

This week on SmackDown, Ambrose used the very same tactics to cement his victory over Styles in the main event. Becoming the number one contender for the WWE title by virtue of his win, the announcers made sure to reference the fact that James Ellsworth had actually helped Ambrose on this occasion rather than hampering him.

Pushed over the commentary desk by AJ, Ellsworth distracted the champion. Styles then went for a springboard elbow strike before being caught with an errant kick from Ambrose. That particular boot fell below the belt line, meaning it was effectively another low blow.

One Dirty Deeds DDT later, and Ambrose pinned Styles for the win. It was smart (not to mention subtle) of both men to hark back to what happened at Backlash here.
