SmackDown's main event was once again Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles. Backstage, Daniel Bryan said that Ambrose would become the top contender to AJ's WWE World Title if he could beat Styles. Naturally, this meant that Dean was keen to keep James Ellsworth (who had indirectly cost him the match last week) away from the ring.

Overall, the headline bout was enjoyable. Ambrose and Styles do have a decent level of chemistry together, something they've shown on pay-per-view before now. That said, they were trundling along with their SmackDown match until Ellsworth did show face, going against Dean's orders.

It was only when Ellsworth showed up that fans in attendance really started to get into the match. Kicking things into high gear, there was also a renewed intensity about Ambrose and Styles when their storyline counterpart hit the scene.

Chased by security, Ellsworth somehow managed to help Ambrose win the match by distracting AJ Styles just long enough to take the champ's eye off the proverbial ball.

Until James Ellsworth appeared on camera, the main event was struggling to really provoke a reaction from the live crowd.
