WWE SummerSlam 1998: 8 Observations From The Rock Vs Triple H

5. Odd Verbal Exchanges

The more I watch reruns of attitude era content on the WWE Network, the more I realize how unfiltered it really was, compared to general television programming today. If you don€™t know what I mean, just go back and watch clips of Ken Shamrock and listen to his mouth away from the mic. During the SummerSlam ladder match, The Rock and Triple H found themselves on the tiny aisle by the entrance, where fans can literally reach out and touch them. One fan felt it necessary to chant €˜Rocky sucks€™ directly towards him, so The Rock turns around and hurls an F-bomb his way. That would never fly today. It was shocking, but also pretty cool to see something so unscripted and raw. Then this awkward exchange between Jim Ross and Jerry €œThe King€ Lawler, where I€™ll let you make your own judgement: King: He swung that like Mark McGwire would swing a baseball bat! JR (in an accusing manner): Why don€™t you ever talk about Sammy Sosa? King: (Silence) JR: Nevermind.
