WWE SummerSlam 1998: 8 Observations From The Rock Vs Triple H

4. Crowd Infatuation With The Rock

When The Rock€™s music hit before the match, the crowd erupted. Then it was like they remembered he was the bad guy and booed him like they were 'supposed' to. Disengaged fans during the match were nonexistent. During almost the entire contest, they chanted either for The Rock, or against him, mostly bombarding him with the ever popular €˜Rocky sucks€™. It€™s surprising to realize there were no chants for Triple H or the stable he represented. The one time they got really loud for Triple H was when he actually won the match. It was clear the fans had an amazing time rooting against The Rock, but the reality is, they were so into the match, they would have cheered for the The Rock anyways should he have won. The extra loud cheer for the belt being retrieved was a salute from the MSG faithful for a job well done.
