WWE SummerSlam 2002: 5 Awesome Things And 5 Things That Sucked
2. Test Wasn't Ready For A Match With Undertaker
"The world hates America. We hate America." This feud was done to capitalize on the patriotism in America that was as strong as ever following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Since Americans were feeling as patriotic as ever, which is a great thing, WWE turned it into this angle by having three Canadians rip on Americans. Test was one of them. Since the Undertaker was the American Badass at this stage of his career, it was his job to represent America. He was also on a level much higher than Test since he was a former WWE Champion while Test was a guy on the rise. Things got ridiculous because Storm & Christian showed up. Undertaker brought them both into the ring. He gave them both Chokeslams. Jim Ross on commentary said the ref wouldn't DQ Undertaker because he brought them into the ring. Test scored a nearfall with a big boot. That's about as close as he would come, though. Undertaker won clean with the Tombstone. That was the end of a serious push for Test. It's not like anybody thought he was going to win, though. It's tough to build a young guy up when he gets help from his two buddies and still can't win. The story called for the American win. It's just that it could have been built up better.
